A technical team of around 30 students and staff from the University of Ballarat, a cast of a dozen of Ballarat's best singer songwriters and an audience of over 100 came together to witness the first ever "Ballarat Songwriter's Night" hosted by Amy and Lee from Voice FM. We can only hope this becomes a regular event.
The concert was recorded in August for DVD and featured some songwriting brilliance from the eight artists involved:
- Paige Duggan
- Aaron Matthews
- Dishpan Fingers
- Jeronimo Joe
- Underminers
- Mark With The Sea
- Juan Alban
- Freya Hollick.
These artists have written volumes of original songs and this was the first time such an array of local songwriters had been placed together on the one bill. Each artist was asked to nominate four of their favourite original songs to play at the concert and then nominate one song to go online. A tricky task for many of the artists. Hosts Amy and Lee interviewed each artist after their performance as well as providing the audience with a biography of each act in their introductions.
More Ballarat Songwriter's Night events will be coming in 2012 as part of UBlive recording season - the concert was recorded live at HMS Theatre by Uni of Ballarat Arts Academy Advanced Diploma of Live Production Course.
